About Ocean Living residential home
Run by the Thorburn family with our sister home Hawthorn Court Residential Home, Tycoch since 1991, we have a long experience to draw upon. We are always on hand at Hawthorn Court and Ocean Living to help and advise, raise standards for clients and realise the importance of a family run business, offering that personal feeling which accompanies courtesy and respect. We are here to enrich your lifestyle and welcome visitors who may wish to discuss the accommodation these two different communities offer..
Enquiries will vary but we hope to follow a similar pattern for each person who contacts us. We will provide you with details about the home in a brochure containing a range of leaflets which have been selected to match your particular enquiry. Naturally we will fully describe the range of services available - such as the luxury lifestyle, fees, services (including personal care and access to the local health team), basic trial contract, the initial assessment before admission and sources of help.
Visitor policy
All visitors are welcome. After initiallly signing in to establish your identity and safeguard our clients you wil be free to stay as long as you wish. We have an open visitor policy and our aim will be to make you feel welcome each time you come. There are no restrictions on visiting apart from the expressed wishes of the client you wish to see. If its just an enquiry about accommodation the Manager will be pleased to personally meet you and conduct you around the new care home.
Advice and Support
The UK as never seen such turbulent financial times. It doesn't help when you encounter so much comments in the press. We know it can be difficult to decide what to do for the best when your own finances are involved. If you or your family are in the private fee paying position then the financial probelms are even more pronounced and urgent.
However at Ocean Living we will provide you with an open direct and expert look at the whole issue of paying for care and be able to answer any quesitons which you may have. We will be able to explain how the UK care system works, tell you how people find funds for care, advise you of the best way of paying, inform you about the state benefits which you are elgible for and how you can protect your property from care costs.
Accommodation Services
Each of these are part of your weekly fee; Use of all communal areas including TV and most associated services, the restaurant style service offering three daily well-balanced delicious meals in our modern restaurant, daily snacks and refreshments from the coffee bar, a minimum of five daily activities covering educational, religious, recreational and cultural topics, special events each month, use of the internet library and visitors room, inclusion in our Health and Well Being screening, 24 hour staff cover and trained emergency call response, weekly cleaning of client's room, daily spot cleaning of whole building, reubbish removal, linen and towels provided along with weekly personal laundry service, wall to wall carpeting , curtains, furnishing and artwork in communal areas, complete maintenance of whole building, fire resistent throughout with regular fire training, regular contact with the local health team.
Care and Support Services (all covered in weekly Fee)
Health Screening and support, reminders, monitoring and support as requested of bathing, showering, grooming, dressing including clothes selection, regular orientation and reminders regarding meals, nutrition and hydration, assistance with walking and other mobility problems, Stage by stage guidance verbally and written on Activities for the Day, Weekly Spa Bath, Weekly Hair Dressing, Assistance with bladder and/or bowel incontinence including supplies, one to one feeding or other mealtime assitance as required a complete Medication Management Programme, regular weekly or monthly case reviews and naturally an extensive annual review involving all care services, the local health team, social worker, financial advocate and friends and family.
